Welcome to our 2019-20 season, the 68th season of Richard Eaton Singers, Edmonton’s premier symphonic chorus. We are pleased to offer our patrons an exciting three-concert subscription series featuring some of the greatest masterworks from the choral repertoire. In keeping with our recent tradition of presenting a concert appropriate for the Remembrance Day celebrations, we perform Johannes Brahms’s powerful Ein deutsches Requiem, a work that offers comfort and hope to the living in the face of personal loss. There will be an Up Close & Personal educational event for students and educators.
The year 2020 marks the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth in 1770, and RES will perform several of Beethoven’s most popular choral works, including his Choral Fantasy for piano, soloists, chorus and orchestra, featuring Edmonton pianist, Leanne Regehr (who is also the choir’s regular accompanist), as well as his Mass in C. There will be an Up Close & Personal educational event for students and educators.
Our season will conclude with a performance of Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff’s glorious liturgical work from the Eastern Orthodox tradition, his All Night Vigil. We are delighted to be joined by Kappella Kyrie (Melanie Turgeon, artistic director), the Edmonton chorus that is dedicated to the performance of Slavonic sacred music, and who performed the Vigil three years ago.
